MMA rally reaches Multan

MULTAN, July 2: The Istehkam-i-Pakistan Road Caravan of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) arrived here on Monday from Sahiwal. Local leaders and workers of the six-party religious alliance warmly welcomed the rally led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Qazi Husain Ahmed, Liaqat Baloch and Prof Sajid Mir at Pul Raango, Qadirpurran, Darulsalam and Chowk Kumharanwala.

The caravan will leave Multan Tuesday (today) for Dera Ghazi Khan.

KHANEWAL: Qazi Husain Ahmad condemned bombings in Iraq, Afghanistan and Bajaur, calling it a great tyranny with the Muslims. Addressing a public gathering at Chowk Sanglanwala, Qazi said the MMA had brought the message that “People are with us”. He condemned a Global Fashion Week and catwalks being observed in Lahore and Islamabad, calling these activities illegal in a Muslim state.

Mr Rehman claimed the MMA government in the NWFP had proved to be a good governance, which indicated that the MMA could work better if came to power.

SAHIWAL: Maulana Rehman criticised Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed who said the government was in contact with the Maulana as he wanted to be a future prime minister. Addressing the district bar association, he said Mr Rashid’s allegations would not wedge any difference in the ranks of the MMA.

Qazi Husain told a press conference the struggle of lawyers for the supremacy of law and independence of the judiciary would be realised. He said the multi-party conference in London would condemn the police attack on 29 lawyers of the Sahiwal bar.

OKARA: Political statements by the Punjab chief minister indicate General Pervez Musharraf wants to flee general elections, said MNA Liaqat Baloch while addressing a press conference at the residence of District PPP President Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna.
