HYDERABAD: JSQM slates govt’s response to rains
HYDERABAD, July 5: The Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz has accused the rulers of trying to hide the magnitude of loss due to recent rains and flash floods and demanded compensation of Rs50,000 to each affected family of Shahdadkot, Kubo Saeed Khan, Hamal Dhandh areas, Qambar, Warah, Faridabad, Johi, Sann and Manjhand.
Speaking during an impromptu press conference at the party’s Media Centre Qasimabad, the JSQM’s Senior Vice Chairman Niaz Kalani said the whole of Sindh had been devastated by heavy rains, gusty winds and flash floods creating apocalyptic situation all around the province.
He slated the Sindh Chief Minister for conducting aerial survey and doing nothing for the people who were living under open sky without food and drinking water.
This was not a question of any one taluka or district but the whole of Sindh had suffered loss of billions right from Shahdadkot to Badin, he said and added: “Rice crop had been destroyed 100 per cent, cotton 90 per cent and vegetables 80 per cent. Mango, dates and tomato also suffered huge losses.”
Many precious lives had been washed away in floods along with the mortality of thousands of cattle, said Niaz Kalani. Thousands of fishermen who till recently were earning respectable livelihood had now become paupers, he regretted.
The rulers, he said, seem to have lost sight as they cannot gauge the miseries of affected people by failing to provide them any relief. He recalled that they did not leave any stone unturned while providing relief to earthquake victims.
He demanded compensation of Rs50,000 to each affected family in the province for their rehabilitation.
He asked the donors to distribute relief goods through their own representatives as the people at the helm of affairs were corrupt and would misuse relief funds.
