HYDERABAD: Minister blamed for breach in drains
HYDERABAD, July 13: Slits in Chandan Wah and the MNV drain have flooded 60 villages of Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka deliberately done by the Federal Minister Liaquat Jatoi to save his own lands, said the PPP leader and ex-federal minister, Haji Zafar Ali Khan Laghari, on Friday.
Speaking during a press conference he said the mismanagement had brought about 400-500 villages of Dadu at the verge of flood disaster with thousands of people living in the open without any relief.
Flood effectees had lost whatever they had including houses, utensils, grain and cattle and were also disconnected from other areas, he revealed while appealing to President Musharraf for immediate relief to people of Dadu, especially of Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka through the Army.
He expressed his fears that if relief work was given to the Civil Administration, only a handful will benefit while tens of thousands will remain deprived.
Zafar Laghari praised the Pakistan Army Jawans of launching rescue operation through boats and setting up of fully-equipped medical camps.
He said the slits in Chandan Wah and the MNV Drain had destroyed 80 per cent land of Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka and
Proper monitoring could have saved about 70 per cent of the losses, he answered.
