HYDERABAD, July 14: A group of people who called themselves residents of Kotri alleged on Saturday that the in-charges and officials posted at display centres were accepting bogus forms without carrying out any scrutiny or verification of voters in stark violation of the rules and regulations.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club, Syed Irfan Ali Shah, Wadero Imam Dino Shoro, Wadero Sikandar Ali Shoro and Qurban Ali Haideri, who refused to disclose their party affiliations, said accused the EDO education of Jamshoro district of allowing the irregularity.

The EDO was allowing it to please his political masters, they claimed. Citing examples of bogus registration they said that in UC-2 Nango Lines, the names of voters who were residents of Karachi and other districts had been registered.

Similarly, names of thousands of voters, who were residents of Thatta, Karachi, Tando Adam and other places had been registered in UC-1. In UC-3 Manjho Shoro names of a large number of outsiders had been registered as voters, they said.

They pointed out that according to rules a voter was required to produce NIC to get his name registered in voters lists and in case of doubt, the official could ask him to show residential certificate and utility bills as well. But the rule was not being followed in Kotri, they said.

They said that so large was the magnitude of irregularities that even the name of Jamshoro district nazim, Malik Asad Sikandar, was registered at two places namely, in Kotri as well as in Thana Bula Khan.

They said that they had informed the chief election commissioner, provincial election commissioner, deputy election commissioner, district election commissioner and revising officer of taluka Kotri about the illegalities but no action had been taken.

The election commission had issued very clear instructions that a voter could get his name registered at only one place but the directive was being openly violated, they said and demanded that the election commission should ensure that the names of voters were registered strictly according to the rules.

ELECTIONS: The University of Sindh announced on Saturday the schedule for election of one member from its affiliate medical colleges to be elected by the university’s syndicate.

The syndicate would elect one member from among the faculty members of the affiliate colleges, Mohammad Medical College Mirpurkhas and Sindh Homoeopathic Medical College Hyderabad. The university appointed Mohammad Saleh Rajar, registrar, as returning officer and fixed the date for receipt nomination papers as July 20. The

Last date for withdrawal of nomination papers would be July 25, said a notification.

The election would be held during the next meeting of the syndicate, it said.

FREE CAMP: The executive district officer of health on Saturday announced that a one-day free malaria control treatment camp would be organised at the Meharb Solangi village of union council Seri on July 17.

In a statement to press, he said that senior doctors and medical officers would examine and provide free medical treatment on the spot to malaria patients at the camp.
