NAWABSHAH: NMC faces shortage of doctors

NAWABSHAH, July 17: The Medical Superintendent, Nawabshah Medical College Hospital (NMCH), Prof Dr Gulshan Ali Memon has said the NMCH is facing shortage of doctors, paramedics, nurses and space as there are only 140 doctors available against the strength of 300 approved in 1984.

He said most doctors after completing their MBBS do not perform House Jobs here but prefer to proceed to big cities. He said at least 110 nurses need to be recruited every year but figures here tell of 25-30 recruitments.

He said advertisement for vacant posts of nurses was announced soon after he took over the charge. The hospital had established departments like neurosurgery, paediatrics surgery, the ICU and urology without schedule of new expenditure, said Prof Gulshan.

The hospital also faced shortage of sanitation staff as Muslims recruited on these posts were unwilling to work as sweepers, he said and added that he had also taken serious notice of leakage of medicines from the store with warning of departmental action.

He informed of separating gynaecology, eye and urology OPDs by utilising the guestroom area. The administration, he said, had decided to establish a help centre for providing information and ambulance to poor patients.Completion of Burns and Tetanus wards was in last stages he said and stressed the need for setting up conference hall and a trauma centre along with a telemedicine ward for better treatment of patients.

He said the government couldn't fill vacant post in one go and called for provision of at least 15 doctors from each district for training purpose for three months on rotation basis.

The MS demanded of the Sindh government to provide 200 acres land outside Nawabshah town for construction of wards as hospital needed expansion.

BOOKED: Bachalpur police booked 10 persons for attacking and beating a police party on Tuesday.

The SHO Mirzapur, Khadim Hussain Zardari lodged a case with Bachalpur police against 10 persons, Umer Mallah, Mumtaz, Qadan, Noor Mohammed, Gul Hassan, Ali Hassan, Bakhshal, Ayub, Haji Mallah and Haji Mehru under section 353, 147, 148 and 224 PPC, alleging that he along with police raided a hotel and arrested absconders Gulsher Mallah and Haji Mallah.

He said villagers attacked the police party, tearing off their uniforms and escaped along with the arrested persons. No one could be arrested till the filing of this report.
