HYDERABAD, July 25: The District Coordination Officer Hyderabad, Aftab Ahmed Khatri has declared Thandi Sarak Hyderabad as “No Parking Zone” and directed the officers concerned to remove all encroachments on footpaths and convert it into a beautiful and zero-tolerance road.

This he said while presiding over a meeting regarding beautification of the Thandi Sarak at his office here on Tuesday.

The DCO also constituted a committee headed by the DO Roads, Nizamuddin Shaikh with the TMO Latifabad, the TMO Qasimabad and representative from the HDA to prepare beautification plan within a week. He directed the committee to identify public-oriented places at bus stands where waiting sheds could be constructed.

He further directed the committee to ensure land marking, zebra crossing, signals, installation of cat-eyes, and flowering and green belts on the road.

He directed the TMO concerned to ensure cleanliness of Thandi Sarak and maintainability of its tree plantation.

The DCO took serious notice of encroachments and broken portion of footpaths and parking on roadside, specially in front of the Pizza Hut, the KFC and the Hotel Indus.

He asked managements of these restaurants to reserve some space inside the main gate of Niaz Stadium to divert their parking thereby paying charges so that smooth traffic flow on the road could be ensured.

He directed the DO Roads to remove all encroachments and reconstruct broken portions of footpaths, immediately. He said that after beautification plan, another road of the city would be taken in hand and this programme will continue till all arties of Hyderabad were beautified.

Meanwhile, the DCO, Aftab Ahmed Khatri presided over another meeting in which modalities to implement the Sarsabz-o-Shadab programme 2007-2008 were discussed.

During deliberations, decisions regarding pooling of required resources in terms of manpower, machinery and equipments, preparation of weekly plan, improvement in existing nurseries and purchase of new plants according to requirement of soil were taken.

The Chairman District Finance and Planning Committee Q. Mohammad Hakim who is also the focal person for this programme briefed the meeting that plantation along 50km long roads of Hyderabad was being implemented in two phases, while work of its first phase to begin this year, had been divided into four segments.

He said that these works included improvement of existing nurseries, beautification/plantation at chowks, triangles, roundabouts at talukas of Hyderabad city, Latifabad and Qasimabad, beautification of existing plant/trees by trimming and energising and new roadside plantations.

He said in the first phase, as many as 4,700 saplings will be planted along the roads of Latifabad, 4,000 plants in Qasimabad and 1,667 plants in Hyderabad city and this task will be completed within a month.

Addressing the meeting, the DCO Hyderabad said that taking care of plants was the main task and added a foolproof strategy will be prepared to make the project a grand success.

He said police officers and the TMA staff of the area could play an important role in this regard. Besides, the areas under plantation will be prohibited for the movement of animals.

He directed that while planting a sapling overhead passing electric wiring and sub-surface drainage lining must be taken care of. He also directed to adopt such methodology under which participation of people could be ensured and civil plantation encouraged.

He said the district government Hyderabad intends to implement each development work with the support of the people for its sustainability and long lasting result.

He directed the HDA management, the TMAs, and the Forest Department to pool their manpower, machinery for speedy implementation of the project.

The DG HDA, Altaf Hussain Memon, the EDO Agriculture Shuhabuddin Siddiqui, the DO Forest Habibullah Nizamani, the TMOs of Latifabad, Qasimabad and Hyderabad City, the DO Roads Nizamuddin Shaikh, officers of police and other departments attended the meeting.
