Pakistan thrash NZ in Commonwealth volleyball
KOLKATA, July 30: Pakistan secured an easy 3-0 win in their opening match against New Zealand at the second Commonwealth Men’s Volleyball Championship here on Monday.
Outclassing their opponents in all departments of the game, Pakistan registered a comprehensive 25-10, 25-14 and 25-11 win.
Pakistan started the first set in a fine manner while conceding only 10 points against their opponents. In this set, the Green shirts scored 13 points through powerful spikes, 3 through service aces and 9 due to New Zealanders’ unforced errors.
In the second set Pakistan’s Naseer Ahmed, Kashif Mansoor and Sanaullah displayed good performance to record a smooth sail 25-14 for their team.
New Zealand spikers look tired in the third set and were unable to counter the quick Pakistan moves who won this set 25-11 and thus the match 3-0.
Meanwhile, in other encounters on Monday, hosts India outplayed Bangladesh 3-0 in a 62-minute match 25-7, 25-18, 25-13, South Africa upset defending champions Canada 3-2 in a crucial game 17-25, 25-23, 25-23, 16-25 and 15-13 while Australia crushed Sri Lanka 3-0 with set scores of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-18.
