HYDERABAD: Removal of Balochistan University’s VC sought
HYDERABAD, Aug 4: The Sindh chapter of the Federation of All-Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association has called for the removal of the vice-chancellor of Balochistan University and said that there should be some distinction between an army cantonment and an academic institution.
In a statement issued on Friday, the president of the association, Dr Syed Inayatullah Shah and secretary Prof Badar Soomro, said that “We do not want cantonment culture in our educational institutions”.
They said that vice chancellor of Balochistan University, a retired army officer, was creating difficulties for the university teachers. He had appointed his favourites to various posts and turned the campus into a police state, they charged.
They said that the federation members would support the teachers of Balochistan University and said that with the appointment of retired professors, army officers and bureaucrats as vice chancellors the education scenario had become bleak.
They alleged that these vice chancellors favoured their own kith and kin and the practice had led to authoritarian culture in the educational institutions, increased unemployment and created frustration among talented youths.
They demanded that the retired professors, bureaucrats and retired army officers, holding posts of vice chancellors should be removed immediately and the posts should be filled in accordance with the criteria laid down by the Higher Education Commission and the FAPUASA.
