HYDERABAD: Musharraf’s days are numbered: Dr Magsi

HYDERABAD, Aug 11: The Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party Chairman Dr Qadir Magsi said that the days of Gen Musharraf and company were numbered after the advent of judicial activism, courageous role of media, political awakening among people and change in the thinking of intellectuals of Punjab and middle class as well as political leadership.

He said while delivering presidential speech at the central committee meeting of his party that the oppressed nations had always opposed the interference of army and agencies in politics but it was a positive development when the intellectuals of Punjab and political leadership also started thinking on the same lines.

Mr Magsi said that Gen Musharraf, after having been cornered, was trying to trap some political parties through a deal to prolong his own rule. Ms Benazir Bhutto had always remained in the vanguard of democratic movement but she had greatly harmed her reputation by entering into a dialogue with the military dictator, he said.

He said that Sindhis would not accept slavery and would always stand for equal rights including the right of sovereignty for all the nations. He warned Sindhis against what he describes as MQM's designs of expelling Sindhis from Karachi and translating the Jinnahpur conspiracy into a reality and vowed to resist such a move.

The meeting decided to organise medical camps for flood-affected people and condemned the demolition of Sindhi villages.

It appointed a parliamentary board headed by Dr Abdul Hameed Memon to recommend the names of candidates and constituencies for contesting the upcoming general elections.
