HYDERABAD: STB failure to bring out books irks DCO

HYDERABAD, Aug 11: District Coordination Officer Aftab Ahmed Khatri said on Friday that he would request the Sindh government to take serious notice of the Sindh Textbook Board’s (STB) failure to bring out textbooks for class-VI to X in time.

Mr Khatri said after visiting different schools of the city that he was surprised to learn that the textbooks had still not been published while the new academic session had already started.

He said that he was writing to the provincial government to take serious notice of board’s negligence and said that it had become a routine with the management of STB to delay publication of textbooks for a month or two.

He was informed during the visit that the Government High School in Circular Building had had no electricity for months while Hopeful High School had no toilets neither any teaching staff.

Four schools including a primary school for boys and girls, a middle school and a high school had been running in different shifts in the building of Hopeful High School using the same electricity connection and metre, he was told.

The DCO directed the EDO of works and services to conduct a survey of the schools and prepare a feasibility report within a week and asked the EDO of education to submit a fact finding report detailing why electricity connection of the high school in Circular Building had been disconnected for long.

He directed him to investigate into the matter and get the power restored within 24 hours.

He asked the schools’ management to implement the District Education Plan conceived by the district nazim to raise the standard of education and ensure morning prayer assembly was regularly held in schools.

Union Council Nazim Q. Mohammad Hakim, chairman of district finance and planning committee and focal person of District Education Plan accompanied the DCO on his visit.
