Benazir no more acceptable: Fazl

LAHORE, Aug 12: Opposition leader in the National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman says the attitude of PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhuttoo shows that there is no difference between the PPP and ruling Pakistan Muslim League.

“Due to this attitude, Benazir Bhutto is not acceptable to the opposition parties in Pakistan,” he told a news conference here on Sunday.

The PPP leader, according to him, had separated herself from the opposition the very day she refused to sign the declaration of the multi-party conference in London. “After such an anti-democratic attitude, it is impossible for the opposition to ever accept the PPP.”

Fazl, who is also MMA secretary general, said General Pervez Musharraf on one hand was looking for alternative ways to sustain his power and save his uniform and, on the other, was talking about imposing emergency in the country.

The Maulana claimed that the opposition would decide everything from the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) platform even if it had to resign from the National Assembly.

Reacting to President Musharraf’s latest assertion regarding exiled politicians, he said that the general was responsible for disturbances in the country. “Only politicians could create a conducive atmosphere in the country.”

He said if Gen Musharraf tried to get himself elected from the present assemblies, the opposition would resist the move through every possible mean, including resignations. —Staff Reporter
