HYDERABAD: Sugar mills urged to pay dues

HYDERABAD, Aug 19: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA) on Sunday warned the management of Seri and Matiari sugar mills of moving the Sindh High Court if they did not clear the dues they owed to growers within 15 days.

The president of SCA, Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah, said at a meeting of the chamber that the board would then request the court to hand over the mills to the government.

He said that delay in payment had greatly perturbed the cane growers and they were ready to take extreme steps.

The meeting advised the growers to get their names and crops registered at a newly established organisation in Karachi, which would export their produce to 80 countries of the world.

The meeting finalised the programme for holding a two-day conference of the federation of all the chambers of agriculture of the country at Hyderabad on Sept 8 and 9.

The conference was expected to be opened by chief minister while the concerned federal and provincial ministers and advisers and representatives of the chambers would attend the conference.

Akhund Ghulam Mohammad Siddiqui, Mir Murad Ali Talpur, Agha Nasrullah and Mohammad Khan Sarejo among others attended the meeting.
