Watchman shot dead in Kohat

KOHAT, Aug 23: Armed men killed a watchman of Lachi Town bazaar in Kohat after breaking locks of a few shops on Wednesday night, sources said.

The traders observed a token strike in protest against the incident. They opened shops only after the accused were arrested by police on the complaint of the brother of the deceased.

An investigation team said that Amir Gul, a sepoy in 43-FF regiment of army, and his brother, Rais Gul, had a brawl with watchman Naimat over some dispute a week ago.

The elders tried to intervene for a patch-up but both the men refused to compromise.

On Wednesday night, the accused broke the locks of a few shops and made noise by opening shutters to attract the attention of Naimat.

Naimat rushed to shops where the assailants opened fire on him. He died instantly. The attackers took away his rifle.

The brother of the deceased, Mujahid, immediately filed a report at the Lachi police who raided the house of the accused and arrested one of them. Amir Gul tried to escape to nearby mountains but later he too was arrested.

The Lachi police registered cases under sections 302,404,457,404/34 of PPC against the accused and handed them to bureau of investigation.
