HYDERABAD: Teachers advised not to accept political pressure

HYDERABAD, Aug 28: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has emphasised the heads of government educational institutions not to accept any political pressure and seek help from the district government in case they feel under pressure.

The nazim said at the first headmasters educational conference on the “improvement in the standard of education” held at Sindh Museum on Monday that despite huge spending by federal, provincial and district governments on the development and promotion of education, the standard of education was deteriorating by each passing day.

He said that the district government had made a beginning by forming monitoring committees to inculcate a sense of responsibility among the teaching community and education staff.

He said that the district government had set up an education monitoring cell at the district nazim secretariat to receive weekly reports on the attendance of teachers and matters relating to education.

Mr Jamil regretted that not a single male or female student out of 20 position holders of the recently announced BISE examinations belonged to government schools, which provided an ample proof to the deteriorating standard of education in government schools.

He said that people had lost their confidence in the government educational institutions and the poor and middle classes, which were in overwhelming majority, were the main sufferers because they had to send their children to government schools.

The responsibility for the declining education rested squarely on the shoulders of teaching community but it did not mean that all the teachers were irresponsible, the nazim said.

He directed the headmasters to submit a weekly report on the performance and attendance of each teacher to the EDO of education and send a copy of the report to the education cell set up at his secretariat.

He stressed that it was impossible to monitor the performance of 1,080 schools in the district, and only headmasters and supervisors could keep an eye on the performance and attendance of each teacher.

DCO Aftab Ahmed Khatri, EDO of education Prof. Mohammad Anwar Siddiqui, district focal person of education Q.M. Hakim and a large number of headmasters and educational officers attended the conference.

He threw light on various aspects of arthritis and their management through drugs and physical therapy in a lecture on “pain in joints and its management” held at MUET campus.

The vice-chancellor of the Lumhs, Prof Dr Noshad Shaikh, said that the lectures were useful for creating awareness among people.
