BHC orders official to streamline traffic

QUETTA, Aug 31: A division bench of the Balochistan High Court — expressing dismay over the haphazard traffic system in the city and the slow pace of development work, both of which cause serious inconvenience to the people — ordered the chairman of the Local Government Commission to expedite the development work and submit a report in person at the next hearing.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai and Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani on Friday issued orders on a constitutional petition filed by MNA Maulana Noor Mohammad against the poor drainage system and the disorganised traffic system in the provincial capital.

The petitioner said though the government had allocated millions of rupees for development projects to improve the drainage system, to repair roads and to construct places for garbage disposal but the poor utilisation of funds has made the situation even worse than before.

The petitioner submitted that lack of facilities for parking vehicles was also a serious problem being faced by the people.

The court ordered the chairman, provincial government, local commission, to hold a meeting with the nazims of the city and Zarghoon and Chiltan towns besides the superintendent of traffic police to ensure the completion of repair work at the earliest.

The hearing has been adjourned till September 17.
