66 Afghans arrested at Taftan

QUETTA, Sept 9: Law-enforcement agencies have arrested 66 Afghan nationals and 17 suspected Taliban from two different border areas.

The 66 Afghan nationals were arrested on Sunday in Taftan at the Pakistan-Iran border, officials said, adding that the Afghans had crossed into the country’s territory illegally through Iran.

The Afghan nationals were booked under the Foreigner Act, a border security official said.

Frontier Corps personnel arrested on Sunday 17 suspected Taliban in the Chagai district trying to escape the heavy fighting in Afghanistan’s Helmand province.

“Three men among the arrested suspects had suffered serious injures,” sources said. The other 14 suspects were shifted to Quetta.
