NAWABSHAH: Loadshedding irks consumers

NAWABSHAH, Sept 18: Unannounced load-shedding has created additional problems for the citizens and business community of the district especially during Ramazan.

Load-shedding going on for last the two months had affected the routine and business and also causing shortage of drinking water.

Power outage at Sehri, Iftar and Taravih timings had created miseries for people. All three grid stations were conducting almost 4-5 hours load-shedding at each feeder, daily. The two water supply schemes of the city were also disturbed due to regular power breakdown. Taravih was being offered in dark.

Traders feel agitated as their businesses perform but load-shedding was inflicting huge economic losses.

Businessmen said they had been paying heavy amounts in bills every month but the company failed to supply uninterrupted power.

Earlier, grid station officials told complainants that the load -shedding was due to the fire incident at Dadu Grid Station but new transformer had been installed.

An official at a grid station requesting anonymity told this scribe that they were carrying out 3-4 hours load shedding on each feeder as per schedule on the orders of Regional Control Centre and Power Dispatch Centre Jamshoro.

A RCC Hyderabad official on condition of anonymity told Dawn the load-shedding was due to the closure of Guddu Power Station for maintenance.

He said the power station would start in a few days after which power will be distributed smoothly.

WATER SHORTAGE: Residents of Mehran Colony and surrounding areas staged a demonstration against shortage of drinking water in their area, on Tuesday.

Protesters were carrying placards and raised slogans against the shortage of water.

Mumtaz Channa, Irfan Thebo, Jameel Solangi, Naeem Ahmed and others told reporters that there was acute shortage of water in their area since couple of weeks and they had made several complaints to the taluka municipal authorities.

They said the TMA had not made any arrangements to supply water to the area.

They demanded of the Taluka Nazim Nawabshah to take notice of water shortage in the holy month and ensure proper supply to their areas.
