Terrorist alert triggers security sweep in hotels

RAWALPINDI, Sept 28: City police have launched a security sweep in hotels located in Raja Bazaar in the light of intelligence reports that some ‘terrorists’ might be staying there, a source said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sabir Nadeem confirmed to Dawn that the police had continuously been searching hotels and inns for the last couple of days.

“Yes, Thursday’s search operation had been carried out in the wake of intelligence reports that some terrorists had entered the city and might be staying in hotels.

However during the search operation no such person was found,” the DSP said.

Police personnel in plain clothes had been deployed at CD shops in the city and police patrolling was increased.

Meanwhile, police found a decomposed body of a man from a hotel room in Saddar on Thursday, police said.

The man, identified as Faiz, was found dead at Kashmir Hotel, Saddar, where he had been staying, the police said, adding that there were rope marks around his neck. The body was shifted to the DHQ hospital for autopsy.
