‘Benazir may import bullet-proof vehicle’

KARACHI, Sept 28: Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto has been allowed to import a bullet-proof vehicle for travel in Pakistan, Deputy Attorney-General Rizwan A. Siddiqui informed the Sindh High Court on Friday and a division bench disposed of her petition in this regard.

The DAG told the bench comprising Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Faisal Arab that authorisation to import a bullet-proof vehicle had also been issued to PPP MNA Dr Azra Fazal Pecheho and Nawabshah Nazim Faryal Talpur, sisters of former senator Asif Ali Zardari.

Additional Advocate-General Qazi Khalid Ali submitted that the home department has issued permission for use of bullet-proof vehicles by the permit holders. The petition was moved by PPP Senator Farooq H. Naek as Ms Bhutto’s attorney through Advocate Adnan Karim.

Mr Karim did not press the petition after the law officers’ statements and the bench disposed it of.

BAIL: The PPP chief has decided to apply for protective bail to ward off any possibility of her arrest on arrival here on Oct 18.

Ms Bhutto was sentenced ‘in absentia’ for her failure to appear in SGS and two other cases by accountability courts of Rawalpindi and Lahore. Apprehending that the National Accountability Bureau or any other agency may try to confront her with an arrest warrant, she intends to move the Sindh High Court for anticipatory/protective bail. Appeals against the sentences are pending before the Lahore High Court.
