HYDERABAD: Wasa sets up emergency centres for Eid days
HYDERABAD, Oct 11: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has set up a central emergency centre in the office of its managing director and divisional emergency centres in the offices of executive engineers to meet any emergency during Eid days, MD Wasa Abdul Malik Khatri said.
The centres would be open from 10 am to 4 pm where skeleton staff and emergency squads would remain alert to attend to any emergency call.
Mr Khatri said that Wasa had chalked out the contingency plan to ensure smooth functioning of water supply and sewerage services.
He said that the normal pumping hours of main water supply pumping stations would be increased to cater to additional water requirements during Eid days.
Besides making arrangements for supplying water through tankers to the water-deficit localities in various areas of the city all the leakages in supply line would be plugged particularly in the vicinity of mosques and other places where prayers were offered, he said.
Mr. Khatri said that a complaint centre had been established at Thandi Sarak Pumping Station to receive requirements for supply of water through tankers. People could lodge complaints on phone No.9200090, he said.
He said that de-silting of main sewers and nullahs within the jurisdiction of Wasa would be carried out and sludge would be disposed of. The sewerage accumulated along main roads and roundabouts would be drained out and special squads of sewer men would be deployed at each divisional complaint centre to take care of any overflow, he said.
Each squad would be headed by an assistant executive engineer or sub-engineer, who would remain in touch with main control room set up in the office of MD Wasa. A cess pool lorry would be made available at the divisional emergency centres, he said.
Mr. Khatri said that uncovered manhole would be covered with lids and urged Hesco authorities to attend to complaints on priority basis from Wasa in case of a major breakdown at any pumping station.
