KARACHI: Governor visits blast victims

KARACHI, Oct 21: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has said suicidal attack on the procession of Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto near Karsaz was a conspiracy to sabotage stability and democratic process in the country.

However, he said, the situation did not went out of control due to positive response of politicians and hoped that those involved in the tragedy would soon be apprehended as all investigation agencies were involved in finding out the culprits.The governor expressed these views after visiting injured political workers, policemen and other blast victims who were under treatment in different hospitals. Assuring them of maximum cooperation by the government, Dr Ibad said the Sindh government would give Rs50,000 to the injured and Rs100,000 to those who suffered serious injuries. Besides, he said he would approach the federal government for financial help of the blast victims.

He also paid visit to the residence of late Arif Khan, the cameraman of a private television channel who was killed in the blast, and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family. He said it was the responsibility of media organisations and journalists’ bodies to come forward and help such families as photographs and journalists perform their duties at the cost of their lives.Later, Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim visited the residence of late Arif Khan. Offering condolences to the family members, he handed over a cheque of Rs300,000 to his widow.

The Sindh National Party, meanwhile, has said that attacks on peaceful rallies and processions are aimed at blocking the political process and strengthening the dictatorship.NP leader Amir Bhambro along with other party office-bearers visited on Sunday the injured victims of the twin blasts who were under treatment at different hospitals. He said the initiation of political process was a ray of hope for people but anti-democratic forces had once again tried to sabotage it.
