NAWABSHAH: Sufi saint’s Urs begins

NAWABSHAH, Oct 22: The 744th Urs celebrations of great saint Syed Asghar Ali Shah famously known as Sakhi Jam Dattar started in Jam Saheb town on Monday.

Jam Dattar was born on the 4th of Islamic month of Rajab in 632 Hijri in Syedabad village near Jam Saheb town and dedicated his to preaching Islam.

Fakir Nusrat Hussain, custodian of Jam Dattar’s shrine, accompanied by Daur Taluka Nazim Khurram Yar Mohammed Brohi opened Urs celebrations by laying a chador on the saint’s grave. Nawabshah district government declared the Urs day a local holiday and deployed police in and around the shrine to provide security to the hundreds of devotees.

District Nazim Faryal Talpur told journalists after laying a floral wreath on the saint’s grave that the district government would provide basic facilities to the devotees.
