Rawalpindi score easy win over Karachi Blues : Quaid-i-Azam Trophy

KARACHI, Oct 24: Medium-pacer Rizwan Akbar led Rawalpindi’s rout of Karachi Blues in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship match at the UBL Sports Complex here on Wednesday.

Rizwan bowled with hostility to claim four for 37 as the home side collapsed to 77 all out in the second innings to lose by 152 runs on the last day of the four-day fixture.

Resuming at 22 for three in pursuit of a target of 230, Karachi Blues lost the remaining wickets for the addition of just 55 runs. Faraz Patel was top-scorer for the second time in the game; making 19 to follow his 63 in the first innings.

Rizwan finished with match figures of nine for 84 in 43 overs.

Habib Bank were the day’s other winners, outclassing Pakistan Customs by 262 runs at the NBP Sports Complex.

Customs, who were on the ropes at 77 for five on Tuesday evening after being set 385 for victory, never got going and were bundled out for 122 in the second innings.

Test leg-spinner Danish Kaneria and pacer Fahad Masood captured six wickets between them.

Karachi Whites, meanwhile, managed to secure three points after taking a first-innings lead of 50 over Hyderabad in the drawn match at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad.

Afsar Nawaz became the second century-maker for the visitors by converting his overnight score of 64 into 108 as Karachi Whites added a further 73 runs to their Tuesday’s total of 386 for seven.

Afsar’s knock contained 12 boundaries. Tanvir Ahmed hit 50.

Afsar then capped a fine day with three for 19 as Hyderabad batted out the remaining overs to reach 229 for six in their second innings with Zahid Khan (80) and Hanif Malik (64) the chief run-getters.
