HARIPUR: Govt likely to miss uplift goals: official
HARIPUR, Oct 26: School enrolment has not improved, indicating that the government is likely to miss some Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), according to Ahsan Khan, executive director of the Rural Development Programme in Haripur.
Addressing a news conference here on Friday, he said an advocacy campaign was being launched for achieving the MDGs in Haripur, adding that education was one of eight areas covered under the initiative.
He, however, lamented that half the time had passed but children’s enrolment in schools was still unsatisfactory, indicative of the fact that the government might fail to achieve some goals, tarnishing the country’s name.
He suggested that for achieving desired results in the field of education, the government should motivate teachers by offering them some incentives and by allocating a separate budget for the education sector.
Executive District Officer Education Fatima Bibi, District Officer Schools and Literacy Syed Abid Shah also addressed the meeting.
