HYDERABAD: International conference on art in Feb

HYDERABAD, Oct 30: Institute of Art and Design (IAD) University of Sindh has planned to organise a three-day international moot and a month-long art exhibition from Feb 19, 2008, aimed at promoting art, culture and heritage of the province and country through antistatic works by students and teachers of the institute as well as of the country.

In this connection a meeting of 20-member organising committee, headed by the vice-chancellor of the University of Sindh Dr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, was held on Monday to discuss the details.

The vice-chancellor asked the members of the committee to organise the moot in an impressive and attractive manner.

The director of the institute Dr M.A Bhatti informed that the idea behind the conference and international exhibition is to provide a platform to artists and scholars of the area to discuss the role of art in people’s lives.

He said that scholars from the universities and art schools of Pakistan and abroad will attend and contribute papers in the conference.

He informed that scholars from Nepal, India and Bangladesh have already confirmed their participation while response is awaited from scholars of European countries while the institute has already contacted them.

He said that approximately 500 scholars and artists will attend the conference while the institute has also contacted its old students to attend the conference and display their artwork in the exhibition.
