Protest lodged with UN

UNITED NATIONS, Nov 6: Pakistan on Tuesday lodged a protest with the Secretary General of the United Nations against his statement on internal developments in Pakistan, said a press statement issued here.

The statement said that Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Munir Akram met Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and conveyed his protest.

It said: “The Permanent Representative explained to the secretary general the grave and multiple challenges which had compelled the government of Pakistan to declare the emergency. However, its scope is restricted. Governance continues as close as possible to the Constitution with the cabinet, assemblies, governors and other organs of the state functioning normally. Pakistan remains committed to restore normalcy, rule of law and democracy. This can be achieved through the co-operation of all political forces.”
