HYDERABAD: Four sewage treatment plants being constructed

HYDERABAD, Nov 9: District nazim Hyderabad Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that four sewerage treatment plants were being constructed in Hyderabad to protect the Indus River and canals against the release of sewerage water.

Mr Jamil said that 90 per cent work on the treatment plant, located behind the Isra university, had been completed while work on Qasimabad sewerage plant was proceeding at a hectic pace.

This he said while inspecting the ongoing work on the northern sewerage plant Qasimabad here on Thursday.

Qasimabad Nazim UC-1 Pervez Ranjha, project director Qurban Ali Shah and other officers of the district government were present on the occasion.

Kanwar Naveed Jamil said that after the completion of the treatment plants, 100 per cent sewerage water will be used for agricultural purpose. He said, since the creation of Pakistan, the entire sewerage water of Hyderabad was being disposed of into the Indus and canals which was polluting the clean water.

He said the sewerage water of Paretabad, Phulelli, Rashi Ghat, Pathan colony, Jacob Tank and other densely populated localities were presently being disposed of into Phulelli canal. He said this sewerage water would now be treated at the treatment plant behind the Isra university and would be used for agriculture purpose.

About the Qasimabad treatment plant, the nazim said that it was being constructed on 140 acres at a cost of Rs100 million.

He said it will have six ponds having a capacity of 35 million gallons. He said the scheduled period for this plant is two years but it will be completed in a record period of only 10 months.
