No one will talk to Musharraf, says Khar

LAHORE, Nov 9: Former Punjab governor Ghulam Mustafa Khar says Gen Pervez Musharraf has lost confidence of all political parties, including those which have been holding talks with him in the past, and now no party will like to talk to him on any subject.

Gen Musharraf is like a bull in china shop, Khar said on Friday, adding that all steps the general had taken in the recent past harmed the country.

He said now all parties should unanimously demand that the general quit and judges who had refused to take oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order be reinstated.

He said the only subject on which political parties could agree to hold talks with the general was his “safe exit”.

He said he had pointed out that Gen Musharraf and PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto could not co-exist, and it stood vindicated when the military ruler alienated even Ms Bhutto.

In his opinion, the Chaudhrys of Gujrat made it impossible for the general to share power with Ms Bhutto.

Mr Khar said Gen Musharraf could not stay in power any more and he would have to quit to pave the way for a democratic system.

However, he said, the country would never forget the “ruthlessness” of the man which had destroyed all state institutions. —Political Correspondent
