HYDERABAD: Use of technology urged in dairy, livestock

HYDERABAD, Nov 17: A Sindh born American expert on veterinary sciences, Dr Inayat Hussain, has said that the production of meat, eggs and milk in Pakistan was not keeping pace with the increase of population and stressed the need for using modern technology for increasing the production of these items.

He was talking to reporters at the press club on Friday evening.

He said that he was born in Naseerabad, district Larkana, and had settled in America 27 years ago.

He said he had come to Pakistan at the invitation of the federal, Sindh and Balochistan governments to educate livestock owners about the latest scientific methods for increasing production of livestock meat, eggs and milk.

He said the use of latest technology in this regard was necessary while proper attention should be paid to fodder and animal diseases.

He pointed out that if any virus spreads among the animals, a lot of time is wasted in diagnosis and treatment.

He said according to latest technology, diseases can be diagnosed within a matter of minutes and the treatment could be started immediately to check the spread of disease in other animals.He said in 95 per cent of cases, outdated traditional methods for treating animals were being used as a result the livestock owners were suffering huge losses.

MUET: Mehran University of Engineering and Technology conducted district and category wise interviews of eligible candidates for admission to first year for the session 2007-08 from Nov 12 to Nov 17.

About 1,875 boys and girl candidates appeared before the admission committee.

The candidates who have failed to appear in the interview have been advised to appear on Nov 20 along with original documents failing which they will not be considered for admission.

LUMHS: Controller of examinations (postgraduate studies) Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro, here on Saturday announced that the theory examination of various postgraduate diploma courses will be held on Nov 20 and 21 at LUMHS Jamshoro at 12noon.

All the postgraduate candidates have been advised to collect their admit cards from the examination department.
