Provisional registration of bikes allowed

KARACHI, Nov 22: The Sindh Excise and Taxation department on Thursday allowed provisional registration of 11 motorcycle manufacturers, who have fulfilled four basic requirements required by the provincial taxation authorities.

The local bike making industry, dominated by Chinese assemblers, got stunned when the Excise department on November stopped registration of 35 Chinese assembled bike makers and one Japanese bike maker due to non-availability of valid C.M. license, deletion programme, and trade mark certificate.

The department demands of the manufacturers to provide documents relating to valid certificate of production by the Pakistan Standard Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), valid trade mark certificate, valid certificate of registration of income tax department and valid sales tax registration certificate from the sales tax department.

The Excise department, however, opened the registration of Chinese bikes as it felt that the government revenues had been seriously affected due to non-registration of motorcycles.
