Aqeel faces Nomi in Ranking Tennis final

ISLAMABAD, Nov 22: Top seed Aqeel Khan and fourth seed Nomi Qamar advanced to the men’s singles final of the 24th National Ranking Tennis at the PTF Complex clay courts on Thursday.

Aqeel beat Asim Shafik 6-0, 6-2 while Nomi Qamar overcame Jalil Khan 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 in the semi-finals. In the ladies singles semi-finals, top seed Sarah Mehboob won her encounter against Saba Aziz 6-2, 6-4. In the second semi, second seed Sara Mansoor (HEC) outplayed Natasha Afridi 6-1, 6-1.

In the men’s doubles semi-finals unseeded Asim Shafik and Jibran Mohammadi paired to beat second seed Nomi Qamar and Mohammad Shafik 4-6, 6-3 (11-9). The match was decided in the super tiebreak.

In the second semi-final Aqeel/Jalil won their match against Tanveer/Yasir 6-3, 6-0.

Men’s doubles (semi-finals): Aqeel Khan/Jalil Khan bt Tavneer Ashiq/Yasir Khan 6-3, 6-0; Asim Shafik/Jibran Mohammadi bt Nomi Qamar/Mohammad Shafik 4-6, 6-3 (11-9).

Ladies singles (semi-finals): Sarah Mehboob bt Saba Aziz 6-2, 6-4; Sara Mansoor bt Natasha Afridi 6-1, 6-1.

Boys Under-17 singles (quarter-finals): Ahmed Aslam bt Hadayatullah 6-3, 6-1, Sadan-ul-Haq bt Sham Abbasi 7-5, 6-2; M. Abid Ali Khan bt Fahad Ali 6-2, 6-0; Waqas Malik bt Syed Zohair Raza 6-1, 0-6, 6-2.

Boys Under-13 singles (semi-finals): Kashan-ul-Haq bt Adil Kohari 2-4, 4-1 4-2; Nameer Shamsi bt Raja Shahid 1-4, 4-1, 4-0.

Mixed doubles (semi-finals): Inam Gul/Sarah Mahboob bt Yasir Khan Ushna Sohail 6-2; M. Shafik/Saba Aziz bt Nomi Qamar/Mehreen Izhar 6-2; Jalil Khan/Natasha Afridi bt Tanveer Ashiq/Qurat-ul-ain 6-3.

Senior 45-plus doubles (semi-finals): Hamid-ul-Haq/Noman Aleem bt Ali Akber/Sergie 6-0, 6-3; Inam-ul-Haq/Nasir Munir bt Col. Shahid/Brig. Rehan 6-4, 7-5.
