Mannequins removed after threats

PESHAWAR, Nov 27: Owners of garment shops in Peshawar have either removed the mannequins used for displaying dresses or covered them with clothes after receiving threatening letters from militants.

A meeting of the shopkeepers’ association of Karimpura, held here on Tuesday to discuss the militants’ threat, decided to remove the mannequins altogether or fully cover them.

The meeting was informed that 10 militants visited the Shaheen Bazaar, a market for women, and asked the shopkeepers to remove mannequins which, they said, promoted obscenity. The letter sent by the militants warned them of dire consequences, if they did not carry out the instruction.
