Pakistan trounce Bangladesh to take 2-0 lead
HYDERABAD, Nov 28: Pakistan U-19 trounced visiting Bangladesh by 80 runs in the second match of the one-dayers’ series at the Niaz Stadium here on Wednesday. Having won the toss, Pakistan elected to bat first.
The home side got a fine start when openers Ahmed Shahzad and Shan Masood contributed with 75 runs for the first-wicket partnership before Ahmed Shahzad was caught by Shuvashis Roy. He blasted 43 with the help of seven boundaries and faced 48 deliveries during his 64 minutes stay at the crease.
Bangladesh got another breakthrough at 110 when Shan Masood was bowled by spinner Nasir Hosain, when he was one run short of his fifty. Shan hit four boundaries.
The hosts failed to capitalise on the first-wicket stand and started throwing their wickets recklessly. Umar Akmal (10), Umar Amin (14) and Usman Salahuddin (12) left for the dressing room in quick successions.
It was only Ali Asad who tried to stay at the crease and scored 27 with one boundary before being caught by K.M. Shakil off skipper Sohrawardi.
Skipper Imad Wasim remained unbeaten on 19 off 23 balls with one hit to the fence.
Akmal, Asad and Ramiz were victims of skipper Sohrawardi who bowled eight overs and gave away only 27 runs.
Spinner Mahmudul Hasan took two valuable wickets for 28 including that of Usman Salahuddin, who blasted 43 in the first match.
In reply, Bangladesh’s batting line fell like a house of cards. They were sent packing at 131 with eight overs to spare.
Tamim Iqbal Khan, who opened for his side, scored 27 with four hits to the boundary. He was caught by Adil Raza off Junaid.
Pakistan’s bowlers capitalised on the early breakthrough when Rony Talukdar and Mithun Ali got out without scoring a run.
Pakistan skipper Imad Wasim claimed four wickets. He caught and bowled his counterpart Sohrawardi for just two runs.
Marshal Ayub who was bowled by Adil Raza for six and Nasir Hosain was stumped by Ali Asad off Imad Wasim for seven.
The tourists will have to face more pressure in the batting department in upcoming matches as Tamim Iqbal Khan has been selected for his side’s tour to New Zealand. He will be flying back to his country to join the squad.
The third match of the series will be played in Karachi on Sunday.
