HYDERABAD: Need for speedy accountability of the corrupt stressed

HYDERABAD, Dec 9: Educationists, scholars and people from different walks of life have stressed the need for speedy accountability process.

They were speaking at a seminar held here to mark the International Anti-Corruption Day. The seminar was organised by the Jamshoro district government in collaboration with the University of Sindh and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) at the auditorium of the Hi-Tech Resources Central Laboratory at Allama I.I. Kazi Campus Jamshoro.

Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui presided over the seminar while Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Vice-Chancellor Dr Abdul Qadeer was the chief guest.

In his remarks Sindh University vice-chancellor said that it was a false impression that corruption in Muslim societies had increased.

He said that due to injustice corruption was on the increase all over the world.

He said education was a fundamental requirement of a healthy society and added that due to scarcity of funds and competent teachers the society had been suffering.

“According to sociology, as a family starts from a home, in the same way justice also starts from home,” he said and added that justice helped strengthen a society.

Mr Mazharul Haq said in our country the most neglected area was education and allocation of funds in this, especially in public sector, was very low.

He said that non-availability of teachers in rural areas had created a critical situation and added that poverty was also a big issue of our society. He said it was a responsibility of state to ensure equal distribution of resources.

The rural areas of the country are the most neglected in terms of basic facilities, he observed.

He said that it was a collective responsibility of every one to fight against corruption. He appreciated the efforts of NAB against the menace.

Dr Abdul Qadeer in his address said that among other departments, education sector was also in the grip of corruption. He said every one was aware of corruption but it still continues to flourish.

Sindh NAB Director Brigadier (retd) Ihsanul Haq speaking on the occasion said corruption has fractured the whole society and rampant in majority of institutes and organizations.—Bureau
