HYDERABAD: Varsity approves revised syllabus

HYDERABAD, Dec 12: The University of Sindh has approved the revised syllabus of different institutes and departments of faculties of natural sciences, social sciences, arts and Islamic studies as well as LLM programme here on Wednesday.

The revised syllabi were approved in the 33rd meeting of academic council here on Wednesday.

The meeting was presided over by Vice Chancellor of the University, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, which was attended by professors emeritus Dr N.A.Baloch, Dr G.A.Allana, Dr Shahnawaz Arbani, government nominees Dr Asadullah Kazi, Idrees Rajput, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh, deans of all faculties, heads of all teaching institutes and departments, senior professors and members of the academic council, Registrar M.Saleh Rajar, and Controller of Examination, Dr Parvez Pathan.

The meeting approved syllabus of the institutes and departments of various sciences disciplines as well as institute of English, art and design. It also approved syllabi of new department of anthropology and archaeology and four and eight months diploma courses to be run by newly-established centre for music at Institute of Sindhology.

The meeting also approved revised syllabi of MS and MPhil programme in all faculties of the university. The meeting appointed two members on discipline committee as well as members on board of studies for psychology, distant continuing and computer education, women development studies, mass communication, education and genetic engineering disciplines, anthropology and archaeology and faculty of studies of commerce and business administration. It also approved the passing marks of LLB as 50 per cent instead of 40 per cent.

The meeting appointed a high level committee of deans of faculties which will be helped by professors emeritus Dr N.A.Baloch, Dr G.A.Allana and Dr Shahnawaz Arabni to formulae system for upgrading as well as change nomenclature of departments into institute or centres. The meeting congratulated Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh on her elevation as pro-vice chancellor of the university.Speaking on the occasion, the vice chancellor stressed the need for collective wisdom of university teachers for the working of university. He said that it is basic duty of a teacher to serve the nation by educating youth and strive hard for the development of society.

He said that it is the need of the hour that a teacher beside teaching should participate in research activities and generate new knowledge for updating the knowledge of students.

He said that society rightly expects from teachers to produce more knowledgeable graduates to serve the nation and hoped that the teachers community would redeem the expectations of parents as well as society.

The meeting on this occasion expressed sorrow and grief on the untimely death of former university teachers Professor Amina Khamisani, Professor Khadim Hussain Talpur, Dr Khalid Talpur, noted scholar Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi, noted agriculture Scholar M.H. Panhwar and noted artist Syed Shafi Mohammad Shah.
