Lahore dominate girls athletics

LAHORE, Dec 13: Lahore dominated the second day of the Punjab Under-17 girls athletics championship, clinching three gold medals out of the total four at stake on Thursday.

Numra won the first gold, clocking 29.18 seconds in the 200-metre sprint. She was followed by Bakhtawar, also of Lahore, while Parveen Akhtar finished third.

Bakhtawar won the 400-metres, covering the distance in one minute and 8.98 seconds while Mehnaz and Rahet, both of Muzaffargarh, grabbed the second and third spots.

Lahore’s third gold came in the discus throw when Razia hurled the discus covering a distance of 26.72 metres. Nabeela Naureen (Faisalabad) and Majeeda Saif (Bahawalnagar) remained second and third.

The fourth gold medal went to Rahimyar Khan in the high jump when Samia Saher jumped 1.40 metres. Membra Tehreem (Faisalabad) and Shazia Arshad (Sialkot) claimed the second and third spot.
