HYDERABAD: Uninterrupted water supply pledged

HYDERABAD, Dec 25: District nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that despite the closure of canals by the irrigation department there will be no interruption or decrease in the regular supply of water to people.

He said this had been made possible because the district government had made adequate water supply arrangements to ensure uninterrupted supply to the people of Hyderabad during the closure of canals.

Mr Jamil said this during an inspection of the newly constructed head reach pumping station on Kotri barrage and the Kiran Shoro goth Wasa reservoir on Monday.

Wasa officials and other officials of the district government were also present there.

He said that the district government had spent tens of millions of rupees to increase the storage capacity of water reservoirs keeping in view the fact that the canals were closed every year for about ten days during the winter season for maintenance and repair works of the canals.

He said that a 60-inch diameter water pipeline had been laid at downstream Kotri barrage to store water in new and old filter plants and Hala Naka and Paretabad water works.

A pumping station had also been constructed for this purpose and added that on this scheme, a huge amount of Rs700 million had been spent. Besides, a lagoon had also been constructed at Kiran Shoro goth which has storage capacity of 100 million gallons of water, he said.

The nazim further said that the storage capacity of Hala Naka and Paretabad water works had also been increased from 35 million gallons each to 100 million gallons.

He said the district government has introduced duplicate water supply system to take care of the closure period.
