No room for the corrupt in courts: LHC CJ

LAHORE, Jan 12: Laying strong emphasis on selfless service, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Sayed Zahid Hussain has warned court officials of disciplinary action if found involved in corruption or nepotism.

“There is no room for corruption, favouritism and nepotism in the Lahore High Court,” said the LHC chief justice while addressing the additional, deputy and assistant registrars of the high court.

“You should become a source of comfort, not trouble, for the people. Irrespective of your branches, you should perform your duties honestly and altruistically. And if you can’t do it, you should find some other source of income,” he said.

He said all court officials were welcome to see him with their problems. “I would try to solve your problems and try my best to provide all you with best of the facilities within the available means,” he said.

“Provision of justice is the prime responsibility of state. I have established a complaint cell at my LHC office for common people,” he said.

Justice Hussain said the Islam had vehemently emphasised equality and justice in the society. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) demonstrated the best judicial system in the world, he added.

He asked people to identify the corrupt officers and officials affiliated with the judicial system. “Collective efforts should be made for the provision of low-cost justice and relief to the masses,” he said. Injustices could damage the roots of any society, he added.
