PHC Chief Justice passes away

RAWALPINDI, Jan 18: The Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court, Justice Talat Qayyum Qureshi, died at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology here on Friday. He was 56.

Justice Qureshi was a heart patient and was brought to the AFIC after he had suffered cardiac problem in Peshawar earlier in the day.

He will be laid to rest in Peshawar on Saturday.

Justice Qureshi was appointed additional judge of the PHC on April 21, 1999, and became a full-fledged judge in 2000.

He had taken the oath of chief justice under the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) after the imposition of emergency on Nov 3, 2007.

APP adds: President Musharraf and Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro expressed their deepest condolence over the demise of Justice Qureshi.
