SANGHAR: Nara canal repair work going in full swing

SANGHAR, Jan 21: The Mechanical Division, Irrigation Department began repairing Nara Canal headwork at Head Jamrao and continued work even during Muharram holidays with five damaged doors fixed by Monday and the remaining four to be put back in working condition in next two days.

This was disclosed by the Sub-Divisional Officer Khadro Faiz Ahmed Leghari to reporters on Monday. He said repair work will be completed before the arrival of water from Sukkur barrage.

Nara Canal system annually closes from January 6-22 for repair, maintenance and desilting. It has 15 gates and irrigates 700,000 acres in six districts.

Executive Engineer Jamrao Division, Shamil Hingoro told reporters all gates require replacement for which a summary has been moved and these would be changed after approval from the competent authority after which there would be no canal closure.

GAS LEAKAGE: Gas pipeline from the Bobby Oil Field leaked at the Railway Station near Rashid Mari village on Monday. Rangers and police cordoned off two kilometer area. Engineers from Karachi were called to repair the pipeline.

INJURED: Mehboob Ali, an attendant of a patient at the Emergency Ward of Civil Hospital was injured when a heavy piece of plaster of roof fell on him on Monday. Repair work of the ward was carried out one month back with millions spent.

FOREST FIRE: Trees on about 20 acres of Bhopi Forest near Khipro were gutted in fire. The cause of fire could not be ascertained.
