HYDERABAD, Jan 23: Government school teachers on Wednesday expressed resentment over a delay in their promotions and threatened to boycott duties in the coming elections and examinations if their demands are no met by Jan 31.

This was decided at a general body meeting of the Government Secondary Teachers Association (district chapter) presided over by its president Zameer Khan. Office-bearers and members of the GSTA Hyderabad city, Latifabad, Qasimabad and Hyderabad rural attended it.

The meeting decided that if teachers’ demands were not met, the GSTA would hold a meeting on February 4 and decide about a future strategy.It said that secondary school teachers had been waiting for their promotions over the past two years despite the fact that posts were lying vacant.

It said that teachers of newly-created districts were getting promotions while senior teachers of the Hyderabad district had been deprived of their promotions. The meeting accused the authorities in the education department of being biased in their approach and paying no heed to the demand for promotions.

The GSTA members complained that the authorities were selecting their ‘favourites’ in the recently launched teachers training programme in violation of rules and regulations.

They criticised the Hyderabad Board for its anti-teacher policies and said that Hyderabad’s teachers were being deprived of examination duties and other facilities available to teachers of other provinces.

The meeting urged the Sindh and district governments and high-ups in the education department to issue a notification regarding teachers’ promotion which had been pending over the past two years. It demanded the selection of teachers in the training programme on the basis of seniority and merit.

It said that senior teachers should be appointed as invigilators in the coming BISE examinations.

EXAMS: The Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences has announced that theory examinations of Diploma Family Medicine and MCQ programme of third professional BDS will be held from January 29 at the LUMHS Jamshoro.

The university also announced results for Diploma in Medical Radio Diagnosis part-II postgraduate held in November 2007.
