LAHORE, Jan 23: Two second-half goals helped Wapda edge past Pakistan Navy 2-1 in the Pakistan Premier League football at Railways Stadium on Wednesday.

Without having the services of key players, Arif Mahmood, Zakir Hussain, Naveed Akram, Zahid Hameed and Mahmood Ali, Wapda failed to impress in the first half as the game was restricted to midfield skirmishes only and ended without a goal.

Wapda opened the scoring with Khuda Bukhsh assisting lanky striker Yasir Iqbal who slammed home in the 53rd minute.

The sailors were shocked when full-back Jabbar Hussain was given marching orders for committing a serious foul in the 72nd minute.

Wapda took full advantage of the situation as Khuda Bakhsh once again helped his side score, this time with an angular pass to skipper Zulfiqar Ali who slotted home for the second.

However, Zulfiqar was yellow-carded soon after scoring the goal when he removed his jersey partially to celebrate.

Navy finally reduced the margin in the 86th minute through a spot-kick converted by Mohammad Ramzan.

Meanwhile two-goal Mohammad Qasim helped KRL thrash depleted Railways 4-0.

Qasim opened the scoring in the 17th minute on a loose ball and then four minutes later he sent the ball past Railways goalkeeper Mohammad Naeem after receiving a short pass from Mohammad Rasool.

The winners were 3-0 up in the 58th minute when Zubair Ahmad scooped the ball into the left corner. KRL skipper Mohammad Essa completed the tally a minute later following assistance by Zubair.

In other matches, playing at their own ground, Punjab Medical College drew 1-1 with defending champions Army.

The soldiers scored through Imran Hussain in the 25th minute, while the hosts restored the parity when Muneer Ahmed struck in the 45th minute.

A solitary goal by Rehmatullah in the 75th minute helped PTV beat Wohaib Club 1-0 at Punjab University ground.
