KARACHI: Boy found slaughtered in Nazimabad
KARACHI, Jan 24: A 12-year-old boy was found slaughtered in a back lane in Nazimabad on Thursday, police and witnesses said.
Police said Mohammed Bilal, a seventh grader and son of a white-washer, had been missing since Wednesday evening when he had left his Liaquatabad house.
They said the family had reported him missing to the Super Market police.
Hospital sources said the throat of the victim had been slit and the body also bore marks of a struggle.
They said the post-mortem report was reserved till the chemical examination report was released to ascertain whether or not the boy was assaulted.
The victim’s father, Mohammed Iqbal, lodged a kidnapping-cum-murder case against unknown culprits.
Dacoit shot dead
A suspected dacoit was killed and his alleged accomplice arrested on Thursday in a shootout with police in Jamshed Quarters.
Police said a gang of four dacoits barged into the house of Gul Nawaz Shah on Jahangir Road and held the inmates hostage at gunpoint.
They said someone informed the police on ‘15’ about the presence of dacoits in the house and a police party immediately rushed to the spot.
The police said the dacoits opened fire on them, which the police returned, adding that one of the dacoits was killed and another arrested following the gunfight.
The arrested suspect was identified as Wali Ullah while the dead suspect as Gul Sawab, both hailing from Hazara.
Killed by debris
A 50-year-old man was killed and a young boy injured on Thursday by debris that fell on them as the two tried to scavenge some steel from a demolition site in Saddar, police and witnesses said.
Preedy police said demolition work was in progress at the site of Shahabuddin Market near Empress Market when a piece of concrete fell on two people.
They said the victims were shifted to Civil Hospital, where Naeem Uddin, resident of Sector 11-D, New Karachi, died and 15-year-old Shakoor was moved to the emergency ward. Hospital sources said the teenaged boy was in stable condition.
Witnesses said the two were looking for steel in the rubble when a piece of dislodged debris fell upon them.
The market is being demolished to make way for a parking plaza.
The police said that because the incident was deemed a workplace accident and not a crime, no investigation was required into the matter.
