‘Arrested Afghans not militants’

MIANWALI, Jan 25: Kundian police on Friday arrested two Afghan nationals on theft charges who were dubbed ‘militants’ by some private television channels.

DPO Malik Abdul Aziz told Dawn that two Afghan nationals were arrested in connection with a jewellery shop burglary.

He said the accused were traced out by sniffer dogs and were arrested two days ago.

However, he said some local reporters of private channels sensationalised the arrests and termed the accused militants, which was not the case.

Meanwhile, police sources said the DPO was facing threats from militants following the arrest of three alleged suicide bombers a few weeks back.
