MARDAN: Mardan bar holds elections

MARDAN, Jan 26: An alliance of the Malgari Wakeelan and the People’s Lawyers Forum defeated the Democratic Alliance in the annual election of the Mardan District Bar Association here on Saturday.

MW-PLF candidate Alamzeb Khan was elected president of the bar association by securing 190 votes against his opponent Khalid Mahmood who bagged 126 votes. Asfandyar Yousafzai of the two-party alliance was elected general secretary with 158 votes, defeating Zaib Alam of the Democratic Alliance who got 151 votes. Zar Badshah was elected joint secretary with 194 votes against his rival Iftikhar. Alamgir of the two-party alliance was elected finance secretary.

The Democratic Alliance comprised the Islamic Lawyers Movement, Pakhtunkhwa Lawyers Forum, Muslim Lawyers Forum, Tehrik Islami Lawyers Forum and the Jamiat Lawyers Forum.—Correspondent
