Women’s chamber to attend Saarc conference

KARACHI, Jan 30: A delegation of local women entrepreneurs exporting their products to India and other member countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation would be attending a three-day conference of the Saarc Women Council in New Delhi on Feb 13.

The delegation of the Sindh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry would be led by Rukhsana Jehangir, president of the chamber, and it would explore possibilities of networking with women engaged in textile, garments, jewellery and handicraft sectors in the region.

Rubina Rasheed, senior vice president of the chamber, told Dawn that networking with Saarc women entrepreneurs’ organisations would not only help Pakistani women learn new business and production techniques, but would also boost export of Pakistani textile, jewellery and handicraft to the region.

The programme includes a seminar on ‘globalisation boom for women integration’; destination India: investment and banking and taking art and craft beyond barriers.

During the conference, there would be an exclusive ambassadors’ forum for a threadbare discussion on business opportunities for Saarc women entrepreneurs.

The delegation would also hold meetings with their counterparts of other countries.

Rubina felt that after the assumption of Saarc chamber’s presidentship by a Pakistani business leader, women entrepreneurs would have a greater chance to increase their business.
