HYDERABAD: Rumour stirs panic in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD, Feb 3: Rumour-mongers succeeded in creating panic in parts of the city as shopkeepers put the shutters down and nervous people were seen running for safety on Sunday evening.

This time the rumour was about assassination of PPP senior vice chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim.

People started making telephone calls to each other to confirm the news. In various areas shopkeepers closed their shops in panic without confirming the news.

The rumour started in the evening at around 7.30 pm. Shops were closed in Lajpat road, Saddar and Khokhar Mohallah, etc. Another report said that PPP senior vice chairman had been targeted in Tharparkar.

At that time he was addressing a public meeting in Tharparkar. The rumours caused traffic jams on main traffic roundabouts.

However, situation started normalising after an hour when TV channels carried tickers that Amin Fahim was safe and was addressing a public meeting in Tharparkar.
