Justice Sharif asks Musharraf to quit

GUJRANWALA, Feb 4: Deposed Lahore High Court judge Justice Khwaja Muhammad Sharif has held President Musharraf responsible for all ills, including terrorism, facing Pakistan right now. His exit from the scene, according to him, would ease Pakistan’s problems.

Speaking to the Wazirabad bar on Monday, he said it was unfortunate that the apex court had given protection to dictators by endorsing their unconstitutional activities.

He saluted deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and his lawyers —Aitzaz Ahsan, Ali Ahmad Kurd, Justice Tariq Mahmood (retired) and Munir A Malik — for their stand against the dictatorship.

He said the issues of missing persons and Pakistan Steel Mills had puzzled government when chief justice took suo moto notices.

BOYCOTT: The District Bar Association boycotted court proceedings against the fresh detention of Supreme Court Bar Association President Aitzaz Ahsan, Justice Tariq Mahmood (retired), Ali Ahmad Kurd and other lawyers.

Through a resolution, it demanded immediate release of all deposed judges and lawyers.

At a meeting held here on Monday, chaired by bar president Malik Shaukat Awan, the participants threatened that they would observe complete strike and take out rallies daily from Feb 5 to Feb 18 if their demands were not accepted.
