HYDERABAD: Police red-faced after raid on false tip-off

HYDERABAD, Feb 5: Market police have detained a police constable Ghulam Shabbir for misguiding senior police officials through his false information that led to a massive search operation in Civil Hospital here on Tuesday.

Shabbir contacted Hyderabad range DIG police Shaukat Shah and informed him that some people were taking corpse of a man from Swat away from the hospital, linked with a terror network.

Subsequently the DIG passed on the information to DPO Imran Shaukat and he immediately asked SPO Mohammad Yusuf and SHO Market police station to rush to the hospital.

Police conducted a search for the body, pointed out by constable and also searched other places in the casualty ward to find those people who were supposedly taking away the body.

The police constable had also told that these people also possessed explosive material.

However, despite a massive search nothing was found.

The arrival of police caused panic in hospital and scared the patients as well as their attendants.

It later transpired that the police constable had some dispute with a man, who was his neighbour, and he only wanted to implicate him.

Police detained Ghulam Shabbir. He has been suspended and was likely to be dismissed from service as well.

According to Hyderabad DIG Shaukat Shah, the police constable is, apparently, suffering from some mental disorder.

He said that his medical check-up would be conducted to ascertain his mental state.

He said he is likely to be declared unfit for police service.

Such police officers could prove to be dangerous for the department, he added.
