Chinese delegates arrive for torch ceremony
LAHORE, Feb 12: A 12-member Chinese delegation headed by H.E. Jiang Xiaoyu, executive vice president of the Beijing Olympics-2008 organizing committee will arrive in Islamabad on Wednesday to discuss different arrangements with the government for holding the Olympic torch bearing ceremony in the city scheduled for April 16.
The Beijing Olympics are scheduled to be held in August.
Though Pakistan has limited participation in the said games, as the country depends on wild cards entries, except hockey, the organisers have selected Islamabad as one of venues of the torch bearing ceremony to be held in various countries.
The delegation will call on President of Pakistan and Prime Minister on Thursday to hold bilateral talks. The delegation will also discuss the arrangements, specially regarding the security, with President Pakistan Olympic Association and officials of ministries of Foreign Affairs, interior, of Sports, besides the officials of the Capital Development Authority.
Earlier, the organisers had expressed reservations over the security arrangements in Pakistan. Now they are sending the delegation to have a talk with officials on the subject before taking any further decision about the ceremony.—Sport Reporter
